Think of a Distress Ink pad in liquid form. - Distress Stains!

Distress Stains are fluid water-based dyes for papers and other porous surfaces. Use for quick and easy ink coverage for backgrounds and larger areas. Mist with water to lighten colour and create mottled effects. Apply layers of stain to achieve more saturated colour. Available in the entire Distress colour palette, including Metallic shades.  The brushed nylon dabber top has a built-in spring valve. This allows for controlling the release of Distress Stains from the bottle. By pressing the dabber top down onto surface, the valve opens and fluid releases. Lift dabber away from surface to stop fluid flow. Today I am showing you how to make Faux Leather.  This can then be used to alter any project you chose such as books.  The other main ingredient in all of this is the fantastic Book Binding Glue by Pinflair.  I would not be without this product.  It sticks anything to anything and leaves no residue or marks!

Start off by taking a piece of brown paper, slightly larger than your project, spray with a little water and scrunch it up into a little ball.  Unravel the ball and start by spreading vintage photo distress stain all over the paper. Heat dry.

Then take the peeled paint distress stain and liberally swoosh this over the paper (crafty technical term for put it where you like)! Heat dry. Then do the same with a small amount of black soot.

Then put versamark all over the piece of paper and sprinkle with clear embossing powder.  Heat set.  The paper will go glossy (The above picture shows half and half). You can make more indentations by running the piece of paper through an embossing folder.

Then take a stazon metallic gold ink pad and brush over the top of the paper.  The paper will catch the gold ink in certain places.  Once finished, rub with a piece of kitchen cloth, taking off some of the gold ink.

Now you are left with the faux leather piece to do with as you wish.

If you wish to plan ahead go buy an old sturdy  backed diary. (You won't need the middle for the project) I purchased a 2012 one with a plastic cover for 20 pence from the local charity shop!
